Nic Ford
Artist's releases...
Born in Manchester England, Nic is the son of Frankie Paris, a jazz trumpet player and big band swing singer. While growing up Nic was surrounded by musical instruments and records by artists such as Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Chet Baker, Stevie Wonder to name a few.
By the age of 14 Nic was playing keyboard, recording short compositions, experimenting with chord structures on a Fender Rhodes keyboard and saving his dinner money to buy records.
Introduced to by a friends uncle, Nic was inspired by U.S DJ's- Ron Hardy and Larry Levan, in 1995 he began Dj'ing at friends and families parties playing an eclectic mix of Hip Hop, House, Disco, Electro, Techno and Funk.
Nic also went on to be involved in the Jungle and Drum and Bass scene that was exploding in Manchester around 1996 and was hugely inspired by producers and DJ's such as Nicky Black Market, DJ Krust, Ed Rush+Optical, and Andy C.
With early inspiration from the Drum and Bass scene in the UK and later Detroit House and Techno producers such as Theo Parrish, Moodymann and Jeff Mills, Nic was now eager to produce musical ideas of his own and went to study music production and construction at the Manchester Midi school.
After completing the course at Manchester Midi School, he got his first residency at the legendary Dry Bar in Manchester, owned by Factory Records, (Tony Wilson, New Order, Hacienda). It was here that he honed his talent for DJ'ing, playing eclectic sets of Funk, Disco, House, Jazz and Techno, together with live sets of his own original compositions, and played alongside hugely influential producers and DJ's such as A Guy Called Gerald (Voodoo Ray), John Da Silva (Hacienda) and Trevor Rockcliffe (Intec, Mentor).
His reputation grew, and with help of Piccadilly Records Manchester, Nic Ford was being asked to play at underground music parties in the north of England and London, held in world renowned venues such as Sankey's Soap in Manchester, Cream in Liverpool and Camden Palace in London.
In between Dj'ing and producing Ford studied Sonic Art and Multimedia Art at the University of central Lancashire where he researched Avant Garde techniques, experimental music, and explored conceptual frameworks in the composition of electronic music and performance.
A man of many monikers, Nic uses his Tempulse outlet for his deep, tribal, pulsating sounds and up-tempo rhythms, MadderModes for his more experimental sonic art works and Nic Ford as a tribute to music's vibrancy, past, present, and future.
